Introduction

The internationally famous aniseed drink created in 1787 was brought to greatness by Henri-Louis Pernod who opened a large distillery to satisfy growing demand. In the beginning of the 19th century the brand became a national and international success. The flavour of Pernod was based on a number of herbs and spices included aniseed, and the original formula containing absinthe was dropped in 1920 in accordance with French Law. Pernod can be enjoyed many ways including the addition of ice, plain water, cordial such as blackcurrant, and is the base for many cocktails.
