Introduction
With its distinctive white bottle featuring palm trees and the Caribbean sun, Malibu immediately transports you to another world, where seriously easy good times are second nature.
Malibu is intrinsically linked to the rum heritage of Barbados. Long regarded as the ‘birthplace of rum’, the spirit has been produced on the Caribbean island of Barbados as far back as the mid-1600’s when it was known as “rumbullion” and was made in pot stills next to the wind-driven mills of the sugar plantations.
Malibu uses only the finest rum from the West Indies Rum Distillery where light rum was invented in 1893. The setting for the distillery at Black Rock, Barbados is as exotic and easy going as Malibu itself. Overlooking the sparkling seas for which the Caribbean is renowned, a white sandy beach has developed naturally over the time in which the distillery has been in place to produce the perfect location to bring Malibu to life.
History
MALIBU Coconut rum has its beginnings on the beautiful Caribbean island of Barbados. Located in the extreme southeast corner of the West Indies, the distillery overlooks the beach and white sands of Black Rock. The setting is wonderfully tropical and as easy going as Malibu rum itself.
Barbados is traditionally regarded as the birthplace of rum where for more than 350 years rum has been produced. Barbados has been the sole supplier of Caribbean Rum for the MALIBU® formula since it became an international brand in the early 1980s.
Distilled and blended to be the smooth, natural and light -bodied coconut rum, Malibu adds the unique and subtle taste of the true Caribbean to your favorite drink. MALIBU’s genuine tradition and history make it one of the finest spirits available today.
The first step in creating Malibu begins with harvesting molasses from its own sugarcane crop, which are then mixed with water and yeast to turn the sugar in to alcohol.
The Caribbean molasses are distilled three times in specially designed column stills at the distillery that overlooks the beach and white sands at Black Rock, Barbados. The resulting white rum produced from the still is then blended with coconut and sugar to produce what we know, and enjoy as Malibu Caribbean white rum with coconut. Malibu is produced using a combination of traditional skills and modern technology.
