ABSOLUT VODKA is the world's fourth largest brand of spirits and the leading brand of Premium vodka. The brand has enjoyed rapid growth, with almost 11 million 9L cases sold in 2007, up from just 10,000 in 1979. Each and every bottle of ABSOLUT VODKA is produced in Åhus, in southern Sweden.

History

The ABSOLUT story began in the 19th century with the extraordinary entrepreneurship of one man: Lars Olsson Smith. He had a remarkable head for business and, by the time he was 14 years old, controlled one-third of all the vodka sold in Sweden, a traditional vodka-producing country. In 1879, L O Smith launched his masterpiece "Absolut rent Bränvin" (absolutely pure vodka), made using a revolutionary distilling method called continuous distillation. Still in use today, this unique method removes impurities in the vodka while maintaining the character of the original raw materials.

With an intense interest in quality, L O Smith was known to organise boycotts against outlets distributing inferior vodka. His exacting standards mean that ABSOLUT continues to be a vodka apart. To this day, his portrait still appears on every bottle of ABSOLUT VODKA, casting a watchful eye on the quality delivered.

Centuries of experience have proven that winter wheat makes particularly fine vodka. The raw material for ABSOLUT VODKA - smooth-grained winter wheat - comes from the fields surrounding the distillery. The use of fertilisers is kept to a strict minimum, and the water used to distil the final product comes from local wells, which draw pure water from deep down in pristine aquifers.

ABSOLUT is distilled to the point of perfection, not once or twice or even five times, but hundreds of times, through continuous distillation. The 500,000 bottles of ABSOLUT VODKA produced every day are still shipped from the little harbour of Åhus to countries all over the world.
